The art of healing. The power of science.
Areas of Practice
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is not your typical “talk therapy”. CBT is a powerful class of evidence-based interventions developed by researchers who have conducted thousands of studies on CBT. In fact, CBT is considered a “gold-standard” intervention for many major psychological conditions including the following:
Anxiety & Worry | Depression & Sadness | Insomnia | Phobias
CBT sessions are designed to feel a bit different than usual therapy. Specifically, CBT sessions are agenda-driven, present-focused, and goal-oriented. A CBT therapist takes an active role in the session and focuses on the development of practical thinking and behavioral skills to help you overcome the barriers separating you from your goals.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a specialized form of CBT that was designed to treat pervasive emotion dysregulation. DBT includes individual therapy, skills group, between-session phone coaching calls, and therapist consult team. DBT was originally developed as the “gold-standard” intervention for those with borderline personality disorder, but has since proven effective for numerous other psychological conditions including:
Recurrent Depression | Bipolar Disorder | Suicidality | Self-Harm | PTSD
DBT has been found to be effective for adolescents and adults.
Other Therapies
While CBT and DBT are some of the most well-known evidence-based interventions, several other therapies exist that are supported by research and bring great benefit to those that use them. At West Coast CBT, we also practice the following evidence-based interventions:
AIM-HI for ASD | Behavioral Activation | Cognitive Processing Therapy | Family-Focused Therapy | Prolonged Exposure
